The UK innovator Yef releases his third single of the year, “Makeup”, an addictive summer cut that keeps his streak of bops going.
Written and produced by Yef, “Makeup” takes his knack for hit-making to the next level, featuring his strongest hook to date. There’s a playful tone to the lyrics as Yef questions whether his eyes deceive him or not (“Does she look nice or his her makeup done? / We were talking but my brain went numb”). Regardless, he’s willing to wine and dine.
“Makeup” follows a string of consistent output. Last year, Yef released the nine-track project Rebuilding An Empire, a standout release in the UK underground scene. Earlier this year, he collaborated with Egyptian singer Bayou for the addictive “Persian Girl”, which currently sits on 433,000 Spotify streams. Just a few months ago came “OK”, another burst of compulsive afrofusion destined for chart reign.
The heaters keep coming with Yef, confident in his abilities while showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
