Newcomer Tendai instantly sets himself apart with debut single, “Not Around”, accompanied by a set of captivating visuals.
The latest signee to the newly-formed 0207 Def Jam, “Not Around” is the debut release by 21-year old singer-songwriter Tendai. “Not Around”. Self-written and produced, the song is characterised by quiet storm production that gradually develops to electronic thumps. Well-intentioned in his lyrics, the song explores the youthful dynamics of romance, sweetened by the London artist’s warm vocals.
The track is complimented by an equally minimal music video, shot in black and white and directed by Hector Dockrill. A feeling of dystopian destruction renders the scenery, providing an artistic matrimony between the visuals and Tendai’s lyrics of loneliness.
“Not Around” sets the stage for a promising experimental star to emerge from the UK and mystify listeners.
